the Suez Canalwas a step that has dramatically changed Egypt’s history. It has cre- ated out of Egypt a linking point between the East and the West. Building many new cities in Egypt like Port Said, Port Fouad and Al Esmaelia was another great thing. We cannot also ignore
the dynamic Parliamentary life in Egypt during Isamael’s era in
1866. During Esmael’s reign, the modern Cairo was built (down- town Cairo) which would determine the course of developing Cairo later, besides establishing the Opera House, embodying the growing richness of the Egyptian public consciousness.
