Queen Tiye

The Great Royal wife of king of Amenhotep III, he married her in the 2^nd year of his reign, commemorated this marriage on several scarabs and mother of king Amenhotep IV (Akhenaten), five princesses. She was of non-royal origins, her father “Yuya” was a priest of “Min” in Akhmim, her mother “Thuya” was a servant of the Queen “Mutemwia”, mother of king Amenhotep III. She was a Lady of a strong personality and sharp intelligence, she held several administrative positions in the palace, and had a role in Egyptian foreign diplomacy. she played a major role in maintaining internal stability during Amarna period. Her husband set up a great palace for her with a huge lake at (Malqata) in Thebes, and colossal statues equivalent to those of the kings in temples, her features became a model for the features of the goddess (Mut).
