 Description:

Excavations at Fag el-Gamous and the Seila Pyramid The Brigham Young University (BYU) Egypt Excavation Project covers an area on the eastern edge of the Fayoum. It includes the Seila Pyramid and the Fag el-Gamous cemetery and has historically included the Graeco-Roman town-ship of Philadelphia as well. The Seila Pyramid was built by Snefru, father of Khufu (builder of the Great Pyramid) and founder of the Fourth Dynasty. It sits atop a high escarpment overlooking the edge of the Fayoum toward the Nile valley. It is exactly ten kilometers due west of the Meidum Pyramid, also built, at least in large degree, by Snefru
