The National Museum of Egyptian Civilization Celebrates International Museum Day 2025 Under the Theme: “The Future of Museums in Rapidly Changing Communities”
The National Museum of Egyptian Civilization organized an extensive event in celebration of International Museum Day, held this year under the theme: “The Future of Museums in Rapidly Changing Communities.” The event was held in collaboration with the Egyptian National Committee of the International Council of Museums (ICOM) and the UNESCO Regional Office in Cairo.
The event saw broad participation from archaeologists, cultural and museum specialists, and representatives of international organizations. It highlighted Egypt’s ongoing commitment to strengthening the role of museums as dynamic centers for learning, dialogue, and sustainable development.
On the sidelines of the celebration, the winners of the 2025 Best Museum Practices Awards were announced. These awards, organized in collaboration between the Museums Sector and the Egyptian National Committee of ICOM, aim to support excellence and innovation in museum work.
The National Museum of Egyptian Civilization was awarded the Shield of Excellence in the category of Community Engagement and Inclusive Museum Practices for the “Tabliyet Masr” project — one of the leading initiatives for safeguarding intangible cultural heritage and enhancing the museum’s connection with the local community.
Also on the sidelines of the celebration, the temporary exhibition “Hands That Create Eternity” was inaugurated. Running for two weeks, the exhibition features rare artifacts displayed for the first time and highlights the dedicated efforts of Egyptian conservators in preserving civilizational heritage.
The event also included rich scholarly sessions that explored:
* UNESCO’s Recommendation on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence
* The Museum as an Educational Institution Empowering Communities
* And a roundtable discussion titled “Museums in Times of Conflict, Challenges, and Emergencies,” which examined efforts to safeguard heritage under exceptional circumstances and reviewed the roles of UNESCO and its partners in this field.
