In commemoration of the anniversary of the Holy Family’s arrival in Egypt, NMEC, through its Training Center, organized a distinguished scientific seminar entitled “The Holy Family in Egypt: A World Heritage Between Past and Present.”
The event reflects the museum’s role as a leading cultural and educational institution committed to raising awareness of Egypt’s rich heritage and promoting it at both the local and international levels.

The seminar commenced with welcoming remarks by Dr. Tayeb Abbas, Executive Director of the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization, who greeted an audience of university professors, researchers, and heritage enthusiasts. Dr. Abbas expressed his great pleasure at hosting events of this nature, which contribute to safeguarding Egypt’s heritage and ensuring it is passed on to future generations.

The program featured a series of scientific lectures delivered by a distinguished panel of renowned experts. The lectures explored the spiritual, cultural, and human values embodied in the journey of the Holy Family and its profound influence on Egyptian civilization.
Another session focused on the documentation of celebrations associated with the Holy Family’s route as part of Egypt’s intangible cultural heritage, highlighting the extensive efforts made to preserve these traditional festivities.
The seminar also addressed the touristic and cultural significance of the Holy Family’s route, and its potential to stimulate religious and cultural tourism across several Egyptian governorates.

The Future of Museums in Rapidly Changing Communities

The National Museum of Egyptian Civilization Celebrates International Museum Day 2025 Under the Theme: “The Future of Museums in Rapidly Changing Communities”

The National Museum of Egyptian Civilization organized an extensive event in celebration of International Museum Day, held this year under the theme: “The Future of Museums in Rapidly Changing Communities.” The event was held in collaboration with the Egyptian National Committee of the International Council of Museums (ICOM) and the UNESCO Regional Office in Cairo.
The event saw broad participation from archaeologists, cultural and museum specialists, and representatives of international organizations. It highlighted Egypt’s ongoing commitment to strengthening the role of museums as dynamic centers for learning, dialogue, and sustainable development.
On the sidelines of the celebration, the winners of the 2025 Best Museum Practices Awards were announced. These awards, organized in collaboration between the Museums Sector and the Egyptian National Committee of ICOM, aim to support excellence and innovation in museum work.
The National Museum of Egyptian Civilization was awarded the Shield of Excellence in the category of Community Engagement and Inclusive Museum Practices for the “Tabliyet Masr” project — one of the leading initiatives for safeguarding intangible cultural heritage and enhancing the museum’s connection with the local community.
Also on the sidelines of the celebration, the temporary exhibition “Hands That Create Eternity” was inaugurated. Running for two weeks, the exhibition features rare artifacts displayed for the first time and highlights the dedicated efforts of Egyptian conservators in preserving civilizational heritage.
The event also included rich scholarly sessions that explored:
* UNESCO’s Recommendation on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence
* The Museum as an Educational Institution Empowering Communities
* And a roundtable discussion titled “Museums in Times of Conflict, Challenges, and Emergencies,” which examined efforts to safeguard heritage under exceptional circumstances and reviewed the roles of UNESCO and its partners in this field.

*A Heritage Event Honoring Queen Shajar Al-Durr at the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization*

Under the theme “Shajar Al-Durr: Stories from Our Heritage,” the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization in Fustat hosted a cultural, artistic, and educational event dedicated to Queen Shajar Al-Durr, one of the most prominent women in Egyptian history. The event was organized in collaboration with a select group of Egyptian institutions and artists, reflecting the museum’s educational and awareness-raising mission to revive Egypt’s rich heritage.

Dr. El-Tayeb Abbas, the museum’s Executive Director, emphasized that this event is part of the museum’s ongoing efforts to raise awareness of Egyptian history by shedding light on influential figures who have left a lasting mark on the country’s heritage. The event featured a diverse blend of activities, artistic exhibitions, and cultural programs, embodying the museum’s vision of presenting Egyptian heritage in innovative ways that merge art, culture, and history.

Celebrating the Festive Season: A Coptic Art Exhibition at the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization

Under the title “The Annunciation,” the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization in Fustat has inaugurated a temporary archaeological exhibition in the Egyptian Textile Hall, showcasing masterpieces of Coptic art in celebration of the festive Christmas season.

Dr. El-Tayeb Abbas, the museum’s Executive Director, emphasized that the exhibition offers an exceptional opportunity for enthusiasts of Coptic heritage and art to explore aspects of Egyptian heritage that embody values of tolerance and peace. This initiative aligns with the museum’s commitment to highlighting cultural and traditional celebrations.

The exhibition features a unique collection of artifacts that narrate the beauty of Coptic art, including a selection of icons depicting the Nativity of Christ, various Coptic symbols executed in diverse artistic styles, wooden crafts, and more.

The Launch of the Third Season of the Tablieyt Masr Initiative at NMEC

Under the theme “Reviving the Past, Documenting the Present for the Future,” the Grand Theater at NMEC hosted the launch of the third season of the Tablieyt Masr initiative, dedicated to reviving Egyptian traditional dishes, in collaboration with Sadko Group.

The event was attended by Dr. ElTayeb Abbas CEO of NMEC, along with a group of public figures, university professors, researchers, archaeologists, and enthusiasts of Egyptian heritage.

Dr. Tayyib Abbas, opened the celebration with a speech welcoming the guests and expressed his delight at the museum hosting this initiative, which achieved great success and public turnout in its previous seasons. The initiative sheds light on the intangible heritage of Egyptian cuisine, aiming to preserve it, promote culinary tourism, and raise awareness among the community and the younger generation on how to make healthy dietary choices. It also focuses on finding healthy alternatives to traditional dishes through various events and artistic workshops.

Egyptian Women: Empowerment and Inspiration Through the Ages A Series of Awareness Seminars to Combat Violence Against Women

Under the theme “Egyptian Women: Empowerment and Inspiration Through the Ages,”
NMEC organized a series of awareness seminars as part of its participation in the 16 Days
of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign, held annually from November 25 to
.December 10
This initiative reflects the museum’s commitment to its educational and developmental role,
its continuous support for women’s issues, and its efforts to raise public awareness about
.women’s right to live in a safe and healthy society as a fundamental human right
Dr. Tayeb Abbas, Executive Director of NMEC emphasized that these seminars are part of
the museum’s efforts to enhance awareness of Egyptian women’s issues throughout history
and to highlight their pivotal role in building society. He noted that the museum, through its
.cultural heritage, aims to inspire women and strengthen their social standing

The closing ceremony of the fourth edition of the global campaign “Hope Giver” kicked off at NMEC

The event reflects the museum’s commitment to supporting the humanitarian and charitable activities of the campaign, which provides hope to individuals who have faced challenging circumstances worldwide. It also aligns with the museum’s social role and its support for people with disabilities, in line with the state’s policy.

During the ceremony, NMEC’s CEO was presented with an honorary shield in recognition of the museum’s efforts in supporting the campaign over the past period.

Ramadan Breezes

Titled “Ramadan Breezes,” NMEC organized an artistic evening featuring the Egyptian Mawlawiyah Troupe for religious chanting, led by Sufi vocalist Amer El Toni. The event was held in celebration of the upcoming holy month of Ramadan, on Sunday, February 25, 2024.


The second anniversary of the opening of NMEC

In celebration of the second anniversary of the opening of NMEC and the reception of the royal mummies in a grand procession from the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir, and in conjunction with World Music Day, the museum hosted a large musical concert in the outdoor area overlooking Ain El-Hayat Lake in collaboration with RMC. The concert was performed by the internationally renowned Egyptian soprano Amira Selim, accompanied by her musical ensemble, on Wednesday, June 21, 2023.
